Equal Opportunity Employer - Defined

I came across an excellent article on eSight’s Career Network site the other day entitled 20 False Assumptions to Tackle as an Equal Opportunity Employer. The article is comprised of comments posted to eSight’s “Swimming in the Mainstream” blog during the Month of July which asked its members to discuss perception, fear, myths, and prejudice they have encountered as a disabled employment seeker.

I wish every so-called Equal Opportunity Employer was required to read this article. But since they are not, perhaps those looking for employment could include a link to it in their resume, cover letter, or post interview follow-up.

I would only consider providing any information of this nature in a post-interview follow up scenario, never in a cover letter or resume. I make it a point never to bring up my disability until I am actually at the interview location. This is the only way anything has worked out well for me when seeking employment outside the field of work with the blind.
